Brow Lift (Forehead Lift) in Atlanta, GA
Some people mistakenly think that a facelift smoothes wrinkles and lines around the eyes, but a brow lift is actually more effective. Brow lift surgery has a significant impact on the overall appearance and attractiveness of the face. Dr. Marisa Lawrence is a talented plastic surgeon serving the areas of Atlanta, Alpharetta and surrounding cities, who would be happy to explain the procedure in greater depth with you.
What is a Brow Lift?
Brow lift surgery (also called forehead lift) raises the brows to a more youthful-looking position and smooths deep creases and wrinkles across the forehead. It also improves the wrinkles or furrows between the eyebrows (i.e., “frown lines”) and (sometimes) across the top of the nose.
What Happens During Brow Lift Surgery?
Brow lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes several hours. Nowadays surgeons may offer the less-invasive endoscopic approach in addition to traditional open surgery.
During traditional brow lift surgery, Dr. Lawrence makes an incision in the scalp, beginning above the ears and hidden within the hair. This incision pattern ensures any scarring will be inconspicuous. Through the incisions, Dr. Lawrence modifies or removes parts of the muscles that contract and cause wrinkles and frown lines. She lifts the deeper layers of the forehead and adjusts any muscles that depress the eyebrows. She will also remove excess skin and elevate the eyebrows to a higher level. The incisions are then closed with sutures and the face is bandaged for recovery.
What is the Recovery Period for a Brow Lift?
Your forehead and scalp will likely feel tight and tingly and you will have some swelling and bruising after surgery. This should all dissipate within a few weeks. Discomfort can be alleviated with oral pain medication prescribed by Dr. Lawrence. It’s very important to keep the head elevated for several days after surgery to minimize swelling. Heavy lifting and strenuous activities should be avoided until Dr. Lawrence advises it is safe to do so.
What are the Risks of a Brow Lift?
Complications during brow lift surgery are rare and the procedure is generally successful. However, all surgeries have a degree of risk. Potential complications include bleeding, infection, reactions to the anesthesia, temporary nerve damage and facial or brow asymmetry. Dr. Lawrence will explain these and other risks during your surgical consultation.
