Facelift in Atlanta, GA
It is extremely common for men and women to become self-conscious of their facial appearance as they age. Lines and wrinkles form, jowls appear and fat relocates for an altogether undesirable effect. If you want your facial appearance to match your youthful spirit, consider making some tweaks with a facelift. Dr. Marisa Lawrence is a talented plastic surgeon with many years of experience, and she offers the residents of Atlanta, Alpharetta and nearby areas the latest facelift techniques for beautiful, natural-looking results.
What is a Facelift?
Facelift surgery accomplishes several things at once. It tightens the facial and neck muscles, addresses sagging of the cheeks, and deep creases below the lower eyelids, and removes fatty deposits under the chin and jaw. The focus of facelift surgery is mainly the lower face, so the procedure will not correct anything above the eyes.
If you have puffy eyelids, a drooping brow or significant forehead wrinkles, it is probably best to combine your facelift with an eyelid lift or brow lift. Injectable treatment or dermal fillers can also smooth lines non-surgically. Dr. Lawrence can recommend the best facial rejuvenation strategy for your needs during your initial surgical consultation.
What Happens During a Facelift?
Facelift surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes between three and four hours. Dr. Lawrence hides the incisions within your hairline so any scars will be inconspicuous. Through the incisions, she will tighten the facial and neck muscles and reposition some of the underlying facial tissue. If there is displaced fat, she will remove it. Dr. Lawrence will pull the skin taut and trim any excess. This will smooth wrinkles and creases around the lower part of the face.
After Dr. Lawrence has made the necessary corrections, she will close the incisions with stitches or sutures and apply surgical bandages, which should remain in place and properly fastened as you heal.
What is the Recovery Period After a Facelift?
Your face may feel swollen, tender and bruised for several days after surgery. You will need to take seven to ten days off from work to recover; after that time you will likely be able to cover residual bruising with makeup. You will be able to return to all normal activity, including your exercise routine, after approximately four weeks.
What are the Risks of a Facelift?
Facelift risks are rare but usually can be avoided by carefully following all of Dr. Lawrence’s instructions. Risks include bleeding, blood clots, infection, poor wound healing, reactions to the anesthesia, facial weakness and paralysis and skin contour irregularities.
