Lip Augmentation in Atlanta, GA
Atlanta lip augmentation provider Dr. Marisa Lawrence offers a variety of options to choose from for those living in Atlanta, Alpharetta and neighboring cities. She will help you choose the best option to give you the plump pout you desire.
What is a Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is a great option for those who dislike the appearance of thin or flat lips. Augmenting the lips not only creates fullness and plumpness, it also revitalizes aging lips and can reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth. There are multiple options for a lip augmentation, including injectables, fat transfer, and lip implants.
Restylane® and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid-based fillers to plump up the lips for three to six months. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, which means these treatments are bio-compatible and the risk of allergic reaction is rare. Injectable treatment can be performed in our office during a short appointment.
Some patients choose to have their own fat harvested from other areas of the body (e.g., the thighs or abdomen) and injected into the lips to plump them. However, some of the fat cells may die when injected, and your body will eventually absorb the fat, requiring additional treatment to maintain your results. If you are unsatisfied with your results, this can be a positive effect.
Implants are easily inserted, generally well-tolerated and most models have a pliable, natural feel. Unlike collagen or fat transfer techniques, lip implants provide permanent results. Implants are placed through small surgical incisions inside the corners of the mouth. Implant options include Alloderm, Fore-Tex and SoftForm.
What is the Recovery After a Lip Augmentation?
The recovery from a lip augmentation varies depending on which method is used. Generally there is little to no downtime with non-surgical treatment; patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine with few side effects. If you have a lip implant placed, you may feel mild discomfort for a few days and experience some bleeding or swelling.
What are the Risks of a Lip Augmentation?
Risks of lip augmentation with an implant include rejection, migration or extrusion of the implant. If any of these occur, you will need another surgery to remove or reposition the implant. Injectable treatments can cause redness, swelling or itching at the injection site. Fat injections may cause lumping, scarring or complications at the donor site. Other potential lip augmentation complications include bleeding, infection and asymmetrical results. Despite the risks, most patients are quite happy with the results of their lip augmentation.
